Design West Michigan explores design as an economic building block for the region.

DWM believes our region’s future depends on developing and promoting a ‘Creative Community’ and that ‘Design’ is West Michigan’s best kept secret today. It builds on the legacy of renowned West Michigan companies that grew through design innovations.

Four West Michigan corporate powerhouses will join forces to launch a downtown design hub this summer that they expect will be another major driver for economic development in the community.

Dubbed GRid70, the concept will bring together creative professionals from Amway, Meijer Inc., Steelcase Inc. and Wolverine World Wide Inc. at 70 Ionia Ave. SW, where they will share ideas while drawing inspiration from the urban environment.

GRid 70
Venue description

Former Milner Hotel, the 40,000 sq. ft. building is the first Class “A” downtown office space built since 1995. The innovative building features a glass sculpture on the front and when illuminated at night, landmarks the arena district. The building was among the first to seek U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification for both core and shell, and commercial interiors. Grand Rapids Innovation and Design, AKA GRID 70, opened a new type of office environment to local businesses, based off a successful global concept. Offices will be occupied by creative professionals from various companies and have the opportunity to thrive on each other’s unique ideas and outside perspectives. Currently, Steelcase Inc., Meijer, Amway and Wolverine World Wide are part of the office mix. The complete vision is to bring more professionals to work in downtown GR, leverage local creative resources, and overall, increase business to the city of Grand Rapids.
